Get Ideas, Energy and Tools to Build Your Alliance’s Reach and Budget
AMIBA’s Go Local, Grow Local Conference is coming quickly and the conference agenda is now online! We’re now filling in panelists, and we invite you to tell us where you have expertise to share with your peers. Thanks to all of you who completed surveys to create this agenda.
Make sure your board and key supporters know to take advantage of this opportunity–it only happens once every two years! Given we have three concurrent sessions, groups sending two or more representatives will be valuable
Whether your group is in the groove, needing an energy boost, or brand-spanking new, you’ll find inspiration in both the sessions and in your peers.
The early registration rate for affiliates of $350 is available through March 31, but you’ll save more by making your travel plans now. We also encourage you to book a room (we have a room block) at the Radisson Plaza so you’ll enjoy maximum time with your peers. Conference events will be just steps away, as will the excitement of downtown Minneapolis. Trains take you from the airport to downtown quickly and depart every 12 minutes ($2). We encourage you to make travel plans now to enjoy registration and travel expense savings.
While we encourage groups to include conference attendance in their annual budget, it’s not too late to seek funding to cover expenses. Here are some short-term ideas:
Your City or Town — approach your city’s economic development office to see if discretionary funds may be available to send one or more representatives from your group to the conference. Even partial funding can help!
Community Foundations — See if funding conference attendance is within their purview. Arrange to meet with a board or staff member (preferably someone you or a board member knows personally). Be prepared with your organizational budget, the agenda, and to explain how the event will advance your projects or mission.
Fundraising Event — Use your social and local media outlets, along with your email list, to get word out quickly! Seacoast Local was the recent beneficiary of a local brewpub restaurant’s first Community Benefit Sunday, during which they donate 10% of the day’s net profits. This is funding conference attendance for three people.
We’ll have a limited amount of assistance to offer affiliates in need of help in the form of lodging at the Radisson. Please contact us to apply. We welcome contributions (including airline miles) to the conference scholarship fund — whether for AMIBA to allot based on need or earmarked for participants from your community, state or other designation. Monetary donations are fully tax-deductible! Contact us with questions or requests.
Putting on a national conference is a huge undertaking for our small staff. We’ve been working hard with the Metro IBA planning team to make this a not-to-miss event for you. Please help build buzz for the conference and ensure its success! Here are four things you can do:
1. Encourage your board to attend
One of he best ways to build leadership in your organization is to engage your board members with the larger Localization Movement. Board members that attend tend to be much more engaged and supportive of their local alliance when they get back home.
2. Include a note in your next email newsletter You can use these graphics in your newsletter and social media outlets.
3. Join the Facebook event page
as individuals and share it with anyone you know who may be interested. Share the conference banner when logged in as your organization to reach your followers.
4. Post to your social media and website about the conference
