We’ve read hundreds of articles on the impact of impact of Amazon.com Inc., but for those who enjoy a good debate, there’s nothing like the real thing: knowledgeable, opinionated people making their arguments and rebutting each others’ points. The panelists also respond to audience questions and challenges.
The debate club Intelligence Squared offered such a forum on January 15, 2015 in New York City, and it delves deep into many vital issues in the process of creating, publishing and distributing books.
The debate, moderated by John Donvan (ABC News), asked whether or not Amazon.com’s overall impact was a net positive for readers. Self-published author Joe Konrath and political commentator Matthew Yglesias argued on behalf of Amazon while former New Republic editor Franklin Foer and author Scott Turow argued Amazon ‘s impact was a net negative.
