Keep Louisville Weird formalizing as AMIBA affiliate
Business First of Louisville
Louisville business owners agreed to form a local chapter of the American Independent Business Alliance after a meeting this week among participants in the Keep Louisville Weird campaign.
The participants also agreed that the chapter would plan future public awareness campaigns, according to a news release.
The March 2 meeting was attended by 87 Louisville business owners or entrepreneurs. They also agreed to prepare paperwork to eventually obtain nonprofit status, determine a budget and nominate a board of directors, the release said.
The Keep Louisville Weird campaign is modeled on a similar effort in Austin, Texas. It is designed to raise public and civic awareness of the economic impact generated by locally owned, independent businesses.
More than 100 locally owned, independent businesses have joined the campaign since it began in November. Participants include retailers, wholesalers, restaurants, art galleries, hair salons, insurance agencies, a payroll service, a waste-management company, a laundromat, and a funeral home.
